Changes to the AGU style files art-jgr.sty and art-grl.sty Version 4.2, 1993 July 23 The \cite macros have been completely revised. It is no longer necessary to write \paractive to the auxiliary file in order to make the parentheses active characters temporarily. This thus removes a possible sources of bugs. At the same time, it is possible to fix up a deficiency so that references with the same set of authors, printed with the same \cite command, only have the author names printed once. Eg, \cite[]{jones90,jones91} produces [Jones et al., 1990, 1991]. Previously equations in the appendices were numbered A1, A2, ... B1, B2... while figures and tables were just numbered continuously throughout the paper including the appendix. I have found papers in JGR where this is done. However, it would seem to be better for tables and figures in appendices to be numbered as the equations. This is now included in the style. (For those who prefer the older method, figures numbered continuously, you will have to alter the \@appendix command on your own.) Sublabelling of equations, figures, etc. has been recoded in a less buggy way. The commands \sublabon{counter} and \sublaboff{counter} are used to bracket the text where the specified counter is to be held constant and italic letters are added to it. Counter may be set to equation, figure, plate, table. The previous commands for this were called \sublabelon and \sublabeloff, taking NO arguments. They operated on all 4 of the above-mentioned counters simultaneously. For consistency, they have been retained. (The older coding had a serious bug with respect to the figures and tables and so could not work anyway.) The older version would not run properly under the New Font Selection Scheme (NFSS). This has been fixed up. Patrick W.
